Move along, Diamonds! Here come’s, girl’s new best friend, Apple products. Any surprised faces out there? Why?!

Why I wrote this article?  True story compelled me to: here is how it goes: I was amazed when a girl was more interested in getting apps for her iPod touch than flowers. She wanted the iPad more than a diamond necklace (same price range). Shout out to my rapper friends, someone sing Apple(‘s) is girl’s new best friend. Or maybe just re-record Apple on this song:

Putting it into real-world context:
Conversation:
Me: Why do you like Apple products?
Her: They are shiny!

This is something, I would expect from a dumb blonde. Sadly, the girl in question here is smart, well-read, and artistically inclined. The thing is this, she ain’t Indian. It seems the west is an Apple’s bitch and we as Indians are divided into two, technologically. Linux and pop-culture, just a matter of time when Apple becomes, *the shit to own!*

Having said that, I do not know why and how; she goes weak in the knees for Apple. Without dwelling into details, let me just say that… the way the sh*t is changing; Geeks just trouble-shoot those Mac’s now! Why? First read some research…

Stare at her before you start reading further(Psst! Apple logo near her belly-button)

She is a MacGirl!

Here are some research’s already done by scientists, analysts on Apple Products V/s social perception:

As a person who has a perceived geek image: I would like to say that for me Apple always remained about Woz and the first Mac. The hacker philosophy that Apple came up from; but Mr Jobs did a job of making Billions out of! Even today, seeing Woz talk about how he started as a simple guy just phone-phreaking to making the first home computer is just a journey.

What I do not understand, where did the chicks come from? Apple has dumbed everything down? Is it too restrictive? Am I agreeing with their philosophy? I really ain’t no-one to comment but things have worked out!

A guy is judged not by his friends, but the Apple products he carries. Personal experience, you got the HTC Evo4G (or the best phone out there), don’t matter! You got the iPod Touch? That get’s the girls to talk to you. Go to a busy street and just wave an iPad around, people will talk to you. Most people even do not know what to do with it… They just like it! They like the touch!

Sure, they will be a little awe-struck but will want to be with you! I can so imagine a bollywood movie, “Toh kya hua pitaji? Linux aabhi user kar raha hain, Apple kharid lega woh!” {Yeh market toh! Open source market hain, OEM ka sangam hain!}
Getting back to the point, diamonds are old-school! Get her an Apple and see the magic happen around. Throw them roses away, Apple head-phones. Forget those expensive purse’s, shoes just get her an iPhone! I could try to understand, why is it so? But to me final aim is all that matters!

Apple overtakes Microsoft, a look behind the scenes…

By: – Abhishek Roy

Recently the big news being the war of the century, Apple vs Microsoft goes into the next level. With an increase in market capitalization of Apple, they have been able to overtake Microsoft becoming the largest technology based company. But the journey to the top was not as glam as we think of it to be. Lets have a look at how apple got to where it is standing today. Heres a cover up on the same

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/microsoftpri0/2011967918_appleworthmorethanmicrosoft.html

Rewind, to the past, the predecessors of the mac series. They were very focused on what they wanted their machines to be. Simplistic, and this simplicity created the hallmark of their product. They believed in  reliability and creating products that stayed so much confined within themselves that users never felt irritated by the physical presence of one. A practice still followed till date. So, I guess you’d think that’s the pioneering quality that steered Apple into a favorable position today, but a look into the past shows a different story.

To prove the point I am trying to make, here are a few examples of Apple ads and events in the history of the mac.

Okay so from these ads you totally get the fact that macs were simpler to use and better to look at and at being organised, and at the same time they could run Mac os as well as windows. But hold on, these weren’t the glory ages for the Mac were they? Nor were they the start of them.

Here’s an ad film from the later 90s.

Wow, and that wasn’t just an ad or two, it was an entire campaign that they had launched. All it was aimed at doing was to show how much faster the G3s were than the PCs loaded with intel processors. Intel being a rising star at the time, was very much taking the limelight away from Apple’s faster machines. Okay so Apple was faster, better looking, simpler to use much less of a mess when it comes to stacking them. Why weren’t they selling in that case? Okay here’s the big news, Mac OS just didn’t make the cut in being a very versatile operating system. The reason? The processors in the macs just weren’t giving them the opportunity to do so. Even though windows worked on macs, they were less efficient and more restricted than windows run on PC. So that clearly shows how speed and ease of use and such features only appeal to a very limited segment of the market. But in order to tickle the larger markets and make the mac a product for all, it would have to have more compatibility to software and to windows itself, taking in consideration the popularity of windows at the time.

In the year 2001, Apple had managed to launch the product that would help change the direction their company was heading in. Yes, the year of the 1st iPod, and as we know it, the very world of portable mp3 players was absolutely dominated by this very unusual kind of device. Although the iPod was such a huge success, it still wasn’t enough to push them into direct competition with Microsoft. In order to beat them, Apple would have to play their game, pleasing the larger markets. Making the mac something that everyone would desire, expanding its horizons to match those of the already successful windows. Hmm.. I wonder how that would have been possible? How do you make sure your operating system has a better compatibility to most of the software available in the market today? You choose the right hardware, and the software roars.

What was that? Talk about deep irony.

The very Intel corp. they had vowed to destroy? Okay, that might seem ridiculous to some, but that i suppose is what opened the Pandora’s box embedded in the macs. Apple developed logic boards that were compatible to use with Duo core Pentium processors in 2006, and made their first line of Intel powered MacBooks and iMacs. Soon they launched boot camp, which allowed the user to run WindowsXp on their macs. Later on in 2006 they also launched the Xeon CPU, and relaunched their entire product like with intel chips. This move soon created a stir in the markets and Apple started doubling and tripling its revenue within a matter of months. This transition of PowerPC chips to intel was the birth of the ultimate everyone’s computer. Users started to love the unmatched speed, the wide range of compatibility and the ease of use with these new machines. In the year 2009 they launched the leopard and snow leopard OS. These operating systems were like two beasts that I assumed were being held back and made to perform under certain conditions. This OS allowed the use of third-party applications to run windows on a window. That’s just amazing.

Another great mark for apple, the iPhone. The iPhone may be a very powerful phone or what so ever, but it’s just the way they fine tuned the OS on this particular device to function with your macintosh was just worth watching. Again as I feel, Apple does try very hard to restrict the iPhone from running on full potential. Mr Jobs if you ever happen to be reading this, I have no clue why that would happen though, but let these great softwares breathe. Give the user more options, let us have more hardcore fights over the iPhone and Android OS.

Pew! Pew! ‘This is Dell Streak in pursuit of apple, suspect is an iPad’

By: – Abhishek Roy

Supposedly Dell has planned on launching its Streak, a 5″ screen mounted to a chassis resembling the appearance of the Blackberry Storm.

Now I’m not suggesting much, but the least they could have done were to have mad it much more visually appealing. The back has a little gizmo attached to it that might just be the first good reason to prefer buying one to an iPad, if you guessed it right, yup a camera. It’s not just any camera, it’s a 5mpx camera with a dual LED flash. And since they figured it would be a good weapon against the iPad, they put a little Vga camera on the front too!! Now I don’t know what they want u to use that for, but many sources say it would come handy while video chatting. Smart!

Okay as you can see on the image to the left, is something that might be a very new concept to many apple users, COLOR. Okay mind you I am a very big Apple fan, but it’s just not cool to see products that are themed on what Mr. Jobs prefers to wear on company meetings and product launches. The Streak compensates for it’s rather bleah! Styling, with amazing graphics and color themes.

The Streak is rumored to be launched with a basic 2GB inbuilt memory space, but here’s where it gets back at the iPad, it has a MicroSD port, which means it has expandable memory and up to 32GB.

The Streak also provides Bluetooth connectivity, 3G, and Wifi capabilities. This means that now you may not only access the internet to download apps and movies and pictures etc. you have the freedom to transfer files to and fro other portable devices and computers. WOW! Burn iPad Burn!!!

Saving the best for last, it’s powered by (Hold on to your hats) – Android OS. *Faints and falls to the ground*. Okay seriously, not cool. I think they’re not in it for competition, they want to PWN apple real bad. Adding the Android OS, now means that you not only have apps that the iPad has access to, but almost any app that’s Android compatible. It also is a clear indication to the fact that it will be a much cheaper device than the iPad. For those who have great enthusiasm in knowing stats on the Streak, they’ve very conveniently been leaked to scare the opposition even further.

  • A sharp 5-inch capacitive multi-touch WVGA (800×480) display for a great full-screen experience watching video or browsing the web
  • Fast 1GHz Snapdragon ARM-based mobile processor from Qualcomm
  • 5 MP auto focus camera with dual LED flash that offers easy point & shoot capability and quick uploads to YouTube, Flickr, Facebook and more
  • VGA front-facing camera enables video chat functionality down the road
  • A user-removable (and replaceable) battery
  • A 3.5mm headphone jack means many of you can use the Dell Streak as the music source (and more) in your car
  • Integrated 3G + Wi-Fi (802.11b/g) + Bluetooth 2.1 (think headsets, external keyboards, stereo headsets, etc.)
  • UMTS / GPRS / EDGE class 12 GSM radio with link speeds of HSDPA 7.2 Mbps / HSUPA
  • A user-accessible Micro SD slot expandable up to 32GB. That means you can store lots of movies, music, photos or other kinds of files.

Now for all the Apple fans out there, who I assume have been frowning all this while and cursing Dell and me at the same time, here’s the light at the end of the tunnel for you. The iPad is bigger and has a bigger screen, err… and that’s about it. But on a serious thought, let’s look at the history of apple products that have been challenged over the years, starting from the Macs to the iPods. Apple isn’t about the features and fancy additions and apps. Apple products have always had a special charm about them, their reliability and the feel they give you is unmatched no matter what. No matter how many tricks the android can do its never going to be loved as much as your iPad or iPhone. Things you’re going to hear an Android user talking about is, RAM and transfer speed, and hard discs and this and that, while Apple users say stuff more like ‘Look at how the menus slide, woohoo’ making the Apple user seem like a much more fun person to hang around.

PS: The Streak can also make calls through as GSM sim card. BURN!

Note from the writer: –

LEAVE APPLE ALONE!!! Well since my YouTube acting skills aren’t that good, I thought I’d rather pen this down.
